  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups milk or buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 –2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Optional:
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar glaze for drizzling

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Pour melted butter into a baking dish, coating the base evenly.
  3. In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add milk (or buttermilk) and mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Spread dough evenly into the buttered baking dish.
  6. Mix cinnamon and sugar, then sprinkle evenly over the dough.
  7. Score dough lightly into squares.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and bubbling at the edges.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
Do not reduce butter too much—it creates the signature “swim” texture.
Best enjoyed fresh, but still delicious when reheated.
You can add vanilla or nutmeg for deeper flavor complexity.
